Bologna 2025: A Week of Connection

Published on 01/05/2025

This year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair was one to remember. From early mornings to late evenings, our team Vicky, Bhavi, Ed, and Emily — were on the ground offering free portfolio reviews to artists from all over the world.

Mornings kicked off with pre-scheduled reviews, while in the afternoons, artists were welcome to drop by and book a slot with us. It was a joy reconnecting with familiar faces — from artists who had submitted portfolios to us before, to previous mentees and even some of our signed talent — alongside discovering exciting new illustrators making their debut at Bologna.

As a team working remotely across the UK, EU, and US, having the opportunity to come together in person with fellow agents from Astound, Advocate, Illo, CWLA, and Collaborate made the experience all the more special. It’s not often we’re all in the same place!

Beyond reviews, we had the chance to connect with bright, up-and-coming students from universities including Falmouth, Edinburgh College of Art, and Scuola Internazionale di Comics. We loved giving talks and chatting through their work — their energy and fresh perspectives were truly inspiring.

The Illustrators’ Wall this year was a standout — bursting with colour, playfulness, and individuality. It set the tone for the fair and offered a snapshot of the talent and vibrancy that filled every hall.

Wandering through the publisher stands also gave us great insight into what’s coming next in the industry — new styles, themes, and trends are always just around the corner, and Bologna is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of what’s on the horizon.

Among our favourite moments? Advocate’s evening party, where agents, artists (both signed and new), and friends of the industry came together for a night of music, great food, and even better conversation. Another lovely moment was seeing Illo Agency’s Sofia Osman posing in front of her ITSme testimonial, proudly displayed on our stand — a reminder of the real impact these events can have.

Until then, Bologna — grazie mille!
