Expand Your Market By adding More Occasions to your GC portfolio

The never-ending list of occasions is always the perfect time to spend with family, get involved in festivities, and build communities. Why not start your day by opening a card and cherishing the message of love and kind words within? Cards range from beautiful to silly, and although a lot of Greeting Cards end up discarded, we all have the odd card or message that either touched us or never fails to make us chuckle, and sometimes we hold onto these. Imagine your work in a draw full of memories – that’s the sort of significance a card can hold. It truly is important to design each card with careful intent and empathy.
Covering all bases: Take a look at the array of joyous occasions and celebrations we have as themes on the website and below, and try and get at least one or more designs in each of the sections. Although we love surprises, it is often the case that clients do not – they want to know what they are getting! We have listed a range of celebrations to get you started. Clients like to see new designs and ranges in these areas, and by sending us work regularly you are showing them you are still working and winning commissions.

Inspiration: Keep up to date with your competition, go browsing in your local shops – or even better – the shops you want to stock your beautiful designs! Check out the resources part of the website and the blog for the latest trends we see coming through from our clients.
Play to your strengths: Know what you are good at and make sure these are a key element to include in your designs. Freshening up your work and trying new things are important, but try and keep the fundamentals the same in your card designs. If you’re fantastic at illustrating inanimate objects, there is a lot of scope to include in your designs, such as flowers, gifts, drinks or sports and hobbies, but if your animal drawings aren’t quite well developed enough, maybe you can work on developing this for your portfolio before you include them in your card designs. Perhaps your USP is drawing puns that will be sure to get someone chortling… if this is your thing and you find yourself hitting the brick wall, perhaps try channelling your favourite comedian and filling a notebook with astute observations that will help you develop punchlines.
