Many congratulations to author Christine Pillainayagam, and Illo Agency illustrator, Trisha Srviastava for “Ellie Pillai is Brown” being shortlisted for Waterstones Children’s Book Prize! “Ellie Pillai is Brown” was written by Christine Pillainayagam, with illustrations by Trisha Srviastava.
It is one of six shortlisted books for Older Readers. It is a YA romcom about standing out, falling in love, and following your heart. The winners will be announced later this month.
Hilarious and heart-warming, “Ellie Pillai is Brown” was longlisted for the Branford Boase and Amazing Book Awards, and was one of the Observer’s YA Books of the Year.
Published by Faber, the sequel “Ellie Pillai is (Almost) in Love” just released a few weeks ago. The sequel, also illustrated by Trisha, finds the inimitable titular heroine in the midst of a heavy summer romance that does not quite go as planned.
Trisha’s artwork is the perfect match for Christine’s writing. Born and brought up in India, Trisha Srivastava is a self-taught illustrator and visual explorer whose passion lies in the art of storytelling through colors. We are crossing our fingers for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and can’t wait to see more of this series!
