Submitting your work to an illustration agency can feel daunting, especially when you are unsure what happens once you press send. After reviewing a large number of applications, we have gathered a few simple tips to help your submission feel thoughtful, personal and memorable
Make it Personal
We love to see personalised applications! Try not to send one email with every agency copied in. We all know artists often submit to several places, but a big cc’d chain can feel impersonal. A short, genuine email that shows you have looked at the agency is much more effective. You do not need to sound perfect, you just need to sound like you!
Stay Professional
Remember that rejection is not always a closed door. Portfolios grow, agencies change and timing matters. If you are invited to resubmit in future, take that as encouragement rather than a final no. It is completely natural to feel disappointed, but try not to respond from that place. A kind, professional reply leaves the relationship open, while an angry or hurt email can make it much harder for an agency to imagine working together in the future. Illustration agencies succeed with good relationships.

Don’t Give Up!
Keep developing your work, refining your portfolio and approaching agencies with care. The right fit may take a little more time, but it’s totally okay to take the slow lane and keep evolving.
Every application is a chance to learn, make a connection and share the work you have put so much care into. Trends are always evolving, so keep creating, stay open to feedback and let your personality shine through. Finding representation is not a race, and the right agency is not always the biggest name or the first yes. It is a team who believes in your work, understands your ambitions and is excited to help you grow. That is worth taking the time to find.
We’re now accepting applications for our upcoming Illustration Mentorship Programme! If you’re looking to refine your portfolio and take the next step in your illustration career, we’d love to hear from you. Apply for our Illustration Mentorship here!
