We are thrilled to share that Astound illustrators Wazza Pink and Teresa Martinez have been accepted into the Society of Illustrator’s 2022 Original Art Show!
For Wazza Pink, the illustration selected is from the beautifully ornate ‘Mother Goose Goes to India’, published by Simon & Schuster. In this unique collection of nursery rhymes, Mother Goose takes a trip to India, This little sooar (pig) goes to the bazaar, Little Miss Muffet eats dahi (yogurt) until a makadee (spider) scares her away, and Little Jack Horner eats Diwali sweets. Rhymes and characters that are familiar to young readers bring to life the beauty, wonder, and diversity of a vast and vibrant country in a way that is accessible and fun.
Teresa Martinez’s illustrations are from the moving Macmillan title about deportation, ‘Until Someone Listens’. In this heart-wrenching, autobiographical story, Estela Juarez’s letters take her from the local news all the way to the national stage, where she discovers the power in her words and pledges to keep using her voice until her family—and others like hers— are together again.
We couldn’t be prouder of Astound’s contemporary children’s illustrators, Wazza and Teresa for their Astounding work and this great recognition from the Society of Illustrators.
