Celebrating 25 Years of WNBA With ESPN and Artistique

Published on 06/05/2024

Sport offers a unique environment for children to play, learn, participate, and make friends that they would not otherwise meet. However, despite the encouragement to participate in sports, if a young girl decides to follow her sport as a profession one day, the prospects available to her are limited when compared to those available to her male counterparts in all but a few sports.

This season, ESPN is honouring the WNBA’s 25th anniversary by recognising 25 women who have paved the way for young girls and women by defying public perceptions about what women should do. Sherly Swoopes, Rebecca Lobo, Tina Thompson, Teresa Weatherspoon, Lisa Leslie, Lauren Jackson, Dawn Staley, Candice Dupree, Candace Parker, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, Tamika Catchings, Breanna Stewart, Pam Mcgee, Minnesota Lynx, Rebekkah Brunson, Diana Taurasi, Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley, Elena Delle Donne, Nneka Ogwumike, Sue Bird, Layshia Clarendon, Becky Hammon, Renee Montgomery.

Artistique artist, Victor Beuren, enjoyed every moment of the project and is proud to commemorate the anniversary; he aimed to highlight and honour each woman through his illustrations. Combining the photos with Victor’s illustrations created sheer magic and adding unique elements to the images. The finished product was fantastic, and the illustrations bring joy and honours these significant moments.

All of the ESPN teams were fantastic, and we were grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with them on such an inspiring project.
